What was old is new again.

So far, my summer hasn't been as eventful as I would like it to be. My normal fishery has either been too high to wade or too muddy to fish for the past three weeks. With that combination of not being able to chase Smallmouth, and working 50 plus hours a week, I have turned to a new species to chase on the fly. Bluegill.

Bluegill have always held a special place in my heart, being it was the first species I ever caught. They first instilled this passion into my life, so it is only naturally that they still make me smile like a little kid when I catch one.  Also, the water park I work at is conveniently located right beside a lake that is just full of them. It just seems like a match made in heaven to me.

If you have never targeted these feisty creatures, I highly suggest you pick up some small poppers and head out to your local lake. Light tackle makes a bluegill feel like twice the fish they are, so for me that is the way to go. But as always, make due with what you have, and be ready to have fun.

Good Luck and Tight Lines,
Josh
